For a number of reasons it's holiday time.
The kids are on a break from school and uni. I'm already on extended leave from work. It's my week off from chemotherapy.
So Robyn and I are heading to the Central Coast for a few days, courtesy of some generous friends. It's just down the road from the place where my parents took the family every year for summer. The same place where I proposed. Where lots of fun times with my own family were had over the years since. A reference point in each of our changing lives.
Although the word holiday has become generic, the original use1 signified a special religious occasion, a sabbath, a day set apart for deliberate rest and reflection in celebration of God and his creation2, which seems far more appropriate for the current visit. Both the change of scenery and the rest3 are welcome, and hopefully some new cherished memories will be made as we pause to take stock.
The timing is also good because last week was a bit mixed health wise, as a feverish temperature resulted in a precautionary overnight stay in hospital. Thankfully nothing serious, but I have acquired a nasty cough requiring yet more prescription medication due to my immune system vulnerability.
Given my respiratory problems, coinciding with a few days by the beach, there is no better song choice today than this.

Enjoy! Rest up.
It sounds like a good place to breathe, rest and enjoy family time.
