Andrew, it can be hard to know how to reply to posts that are so thoughtful, yet so profound as you tackle this huge change. I fear putting my foot in it. At the same time, I feel I just can’t ignore something that is so heartfelt, personal and challenging. We all know - intellectually - that from the day we are born that we are on a headlong rush to the grave, yet most of us live most or all of our lives like that is distant, not real. The questions you ask are profoundly challenging.

The question of whose life is it anyway is a good one. We know that our lives are not our own. But how does that translate into the decisions of the medical care we choose? I wish I could answer this.

I fear I am blathering.

Where are we investing time and energy? It has been a question I ask but no doubt more sharply in focus in hard circumstances. One Jesus seems to ask in the garden. Is there another alternative?

I’ve been thinking about the who rather than the what of life too recently… who will be there… at the end, or even in the middle…
